This month’s PTO meeting is devoted to cooking! PilotLight chefs, Ray teacher Chandra Garcia and Ray PTO members will lead Ray families in the preparation of several delicious Middle Eastern salads. We'll cook and then we'll eat! This event is free thanks to a grant from The Chicago Community Trust, but limited to 35 Ray families. Please email [email protected] if you plan to attend and tell us how many are in your party! Thanks

Hi Students & Families,
This week students are wrapping up with our units of study before we leave on Tuesday. All students are also taking the NWEA screener which is a short, twenty question version of the test to check-in and see how students are doing. Most students have done very well! Please email me if you'd like to know details. For homework, all students have a Thanksgiving related article at their appropriate level in addition to math assignments related to the content we've learned thus far. Homework was not assigned for the previous week. Also, if you are feeling in a giving mood, please consider donating glue sticks to our classroom. Our stock is already significantly depleted with our use of interactive notebooks this year. I hope you all have a lovely holiday with your families.

Hi Students & Families,
This is an odd week of school. We only have school on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday! Report card pickup is tomorrow! Please stop by room 106 so we can discuss how and what your child is doing. All students will extend what we started working on last week to ensure deeper understanding. 4th Grade: In math we will continue working with patterns in reading and answering questions using RAP (restate the question, answer the question, prove you're right). KJ is adding the letter M to his arsenal. 5th Grade: We will be adding fractions with unlike denominators by finding the LCM (least common multiple) to make common denominators. In reading we are also using RAP with age/grade appropriate texts. 6th Grade: Students are continuing to read Crossover and respond to questions about the text. SK is reading an article about the new Wreck It Ralph movie. 7th Grade: MD is working on responding to literal comprehension questions and writing a complete sentence with an appropriate verb phrase.

Next week will be a bit unusual as we have no school for Veteran's Day on Monday and Report Card Pickup on Wednesday. I look forward to meeting with each of you on Wednesday. Please also see the flyer below for information about a school fundraiser at the Rink benefiting the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C. in the spring! 4th Grade: In math, students are learning to generate and interpret patterns. They will also be able to represent numerical patterns with an expression that contains a variable. In reading, students are continuing to work on identifying the main idea and supporting details in fiction texts. KJ is adding the letter G to his repertoire. 5th Grade: Students are diving into fractions. We are starting by creating equivalent fractions and finding the greatest common factor (GCF).
