Hi Families,
This week students will begin to use Wilson, an amazingly structured program to help build phonemic awareness in young readers. Several students have already used Wilson with other teachers at Ray. I was trained in the program this summer and am ready to launch it thanks to assistance from Ms. Chapman. As a reminder, please have your children return their homework folders on Mondays. I assign homework on Monday, due the following Monday. All portions of the homework should be completed by the students with minimal adult assistance as needed. In the event that homework is misplaced, I have provided a link to the current week's homework. Click on the banner to access the Google Drive folder. Please let me know if your child needs any sort of accommodation. Finally, I encourage you to check out the resources available to parents provided by Chicago Public Schools. On October 13th from 8:30-12:00 a Fall Parent Empowerment Expo. Click HERE for details.

Hi Students & Families,
This week we’re really jumping into content with 4th and 5th grade math. We’ve begun our interactive notebooks and will start talking about our first Common Core standards for the year. 6th graders will continue to be supported with mastering the order of operations. In reading, 4th and 5th graders are reading a fiction selection while working on comprehension startegies. 5th graders will also begin working on a narrative writing unit. 6th graders have been reading a National Geographic collection on different cultures. Ms. Zelnick and I are also working on assessing students’ reading levels and should be finished by the end of the week. Please reach out if you’d like to know how your child performed. KJ, SK, and MD are settling into their routines. They will all be using News2You starting this week as a means of staying up on current events and working on comprehension skills as well.
