Dear Families,
Welcome back to school! My name is Ashley Ely and I will be teaching students in kindergarten through third grade along with our two interns Carly Kruzel in the fall/winter and McKennah Heckman in the winter/spring. I am excited to be returning for my third year at Ray.
This summer I dedicated a lot of time to thinking about sustainable practices that I want to bring back to the classroom. I also attended a two day workshop on integrating technology in the classroom to build critical thinking skills. This year our focus will be around UNESCO's Sustainable Development Goals also referred to as Global Goals. I feel we all need to work together to make our world a better place and seeing as children are the future, they should be leading the way. I want your children to actualize their capacity by sharing their personal strengths and realizing that even little people can make a big difference in the world.
The vision for our classroom is that students take ownership of their learning by becoming inquiry driven information seekers who utilize resources and technology to creatively collaborate and construct knowledge. I have created three sub-goals to help achieve this lofty ideal:
You can see what we are doing in class on my blog, ClassDojo, and Seesaw. ClassDojo and Seesaw are available at the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android users in addition to being found online. I’ll be assigning homework using Seesaw. Please reach out to me if you have questions or concerns about this.
Please know that I am here for your student first and foremost. I want your child to feel empowered in my room and know I am always working in their best interest. Their success means everything to me. If for any reason you need to contact me, please do! You may call or text me at (916) 412-9250 or email me at [email protected]. Ms. Kruzel can be reached via email at [email protected].
I look forward to working together with you in helping your child grow.
Sincerely,
Ms. Ely

- Students will engage in authentic tasks related to their personal interests
- Students will develop technological and computational skills to be successful in an increasingly digital world
- Students will work with peers and staff to solve problems with mindfulness and empathy
