Hi Families,
This is the last week of the quarter! It totally caught me by surprise as we usually end the quarter after ten weeks of instruction. My apologies for the mistake. All students will be catching up on assignment in my class and their other classes to ensure they have achieved their deserved/earned grades.

Hi Students & Families,
After this one, there are only two weeks left in the quarter! Time flies when you’re having fun. 4th Grade: We’ll be reading a nonfiction book of the students’ choice and work on finding the main idea throughout. In math we will add on to our knowledge of factors by learning about multiples. KJ is adding another letter to his repertoire this week meaning we’ll be able to make words! 5th Grade: Students will wrap up their fictional narratives this week and share them with their classmates. Maybe we’ll put them up here too! We are wrapping up a nonfiction book about emergencies in reading. In math, students have a field trip project they’ll be working on until the end of the quarter. 6th Grade: Students are finishing the Many Cultures selection in reading including responding to a series of questions about all three pieces. In math, ET is working on using integers with all four operations. SK is going to begin adding fractions. 7th Grade: MD is going to focus on answering comprehension questions this week.

Ray is trying to arrange another blood drive for November 14th. We need commitments from staff and parents before the Red Cross will agree. Please sign up in the office if you're interested.
Hi Students & Families,
Several students are still not returning their homework diligently on Mondays. I assign homework to the following students 4th - JC, MC, KJ, KRI, MS, JS; 5th - DB, TM, SS, SW; 6th - SK, ET; 7th - MD. It goes home each Monday and is due the following week. Please work with your children to reinforce what we are learning in class. This week 4th graders are continuing to work with nonfiction texts and learning about factors and multiples. 5th graders will be starting a nonfiction text as well and are reviewing skills from the concepts we've thus far. 6th graders are continuing with Catch the Light. Please join us at Ray for International Night on Wednesday 10/17 at 5:30. I'll be there with my children. Hope to see you!

Hi Students & Families,
I hope you all had a long and relaxing weekend! My family visited with relatives at a lake in Wisconsin and Ms. Zelnick went back to visit friends in Michigan. We’re both well rested and eager to get back to Ray. Fifth graders are nearing the end of the first groups of common core standards in math. We’ll spend time reviewing and filling in any gaps. Fourth graders are moving right along through some difficult concepts. Last week we started working on multi-step problems and will continue doing so. Something all students do when we encounter a word problem is circle the important numbers, box the key words, and underline the question. Please encourage your children to do this when they complete their homework too. All students have started using Wilson. We’re still finding our bearings, but so far so good. Fourth and fifth grader have read two novels each so far. Fifth graders are finishing their third this week while fourth graders will start working on nonfiction text features and monitoring comprehension. Sixth graders will begin a new National Geographic collection entitled Catch the Light that includes a scientific article, fiction story, and an opinion piece all about light and how it affects our lives. SK, MD, and KJ are doing well with News2You and will be adding more literature into the mix. Lastly, fifth grade writing students will be completing the first drafts of their fictional narratives this week.

Dear CPS Parents and Families:
Out of an abundance of caution, all CPS athletic competitions are canceled for Friday, October 5. Your school will provide an update if they decide to cancel other after-school activities today. All scheduled weekend activities are also canceled. Classes are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, October 9. Please help ensure this important information is heard by passing it on to your friends and family with children in CPS schools. Thank you. -CPS Communicationse
Hi Students & Families,
Welcome to week 5! That means progress reports go home on Friday. My apologies that grades have not been entered before now. It took awhile to set up Gradebook as another teacher has to transfer each student individually from their homerooms to my class. All students are doing very well and I don’t foresee any poor grades. As always, please reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.
